Vincent The Soul Chef

I love music... any kind of music... as long as it's groovy.

After a decade of trial and error, here is the official website where I attempt to chronicle my forty year obsession with all things vinyl. I dedicate this endeavour lovingly and respectfully to each and every single cratedigger the world over, who has offered me education and inspiration either directly or indirectly. Without you, this site, much less my record collection, would cease to exist. Thank you and enjoy.

Manifesto number thirteen...

I really need to get my priorities in order here, because as it stands right now, the infamous Fufu Stew brand has pretty much taken on yet another life of its own… yet another “reinvention”. It’s been about fifteen months since I was invited to join the Funky 16 Corners Radio Network. It continues to shock me that I still have complete and total control of the Tuesday night format, or lack thereof, depending on who you ask. I remain grateful that Larry continues to let me realise the dream that I’ve been holding in my head for the last thirty five years. Of course, it’s something that I could’ve been doing on my own for the longest, but having a little extra incentive (not to mention, a space on a platform that has long been established and recognised for a little over ten years) certainly doesn’t hurt. Big things are in the works on that front, but wait, there’s more…

Bear in mind that I will lobby for monetary support to help keep the F16C network going strong by default (I feel it’s my duty to do so at this juncture), but the Fufu Stew arm of the aforementioned network still is, has been and always will be a not for profit venture. I can never ask for any monetary donations for this. This is something I would’ve been spending money to do anyway, even it fell on deaf ears. The internet is a crazy place these days, so I figure if I can add even a small amount of something over and above than the usual thing, then I will have done my part, at the very least, to make the world a little more tolerable. Heaven knows that the world is going through some shite right now…

Hell, the fact that I haven’t been laughed off of the internet for even launching this blog way back in 2007 continues to shock me to this day… I look at it like this: if I can make just one person smile with what I do, then I’ve done a good thing. The fact that I’ve made at least a few thousand smile, even if only for a few fleeting moments at a time, just means that I’ve done a miraculous job. I couldn’t be more proud… that being said, here’s where I acknowledge just a few more people who have helped me along the way with moral encouragement, equipment, extra peripherals and of course, more records. First off, a huge round of thanks to my man Rick is definitely in order. I mean, does he have a warehouse or what?!? Going from one to FOUR computers in the span of less than three months is something I would’ve never imagined possible with my budget, but he made it possible. Second, big thanks to Bob and Mary Ellen for doing the heavy lifting, and other various and sundry legwork necessary to keep the crates overflowing with 45s… and for that sage technical advice Saturday night, too. Finally, I won’t force my hand, but I did learn a piece of news yesterday that could very well serve as the proverbial “cherry” on top of this sweet dish of good fortune. More on that later…

In my estimation, one must always be willing to learn in order to get better. For starters, I’ve definitely learned that there’s way more to life than just trying to own more three digit funk 45s than my contemporaries over the last few years, and that I actually can follow up This Mortal Coil with the Meters in a mix with no one even batting an eye. Watch me do more of that in 2019; I mean, I need an excuse to play all the records I’ve accumulated over the last five years, especially all of the ones that came from the growing number of record fairies… seriously, I’ve got quite a few of them now, and seriously, I am not worthy.

Who knows, this year’s manifesto is probably as disjointed as my shows are on some weeks, but I’m going to stand by each and every character of it as I always do, along with saying thank you once again to each and every one of you who took a chance, and dared to “click the link” over the last twelve years. I can definitely guarantee more of the same, and a whole lot more of it as the weeks and months progress, and I can also say with absolute certainty that even though what I do here is far from unique, it’s unique anyway, because I am the one who makes it so with my personal stamp. That’s all I’ve got, nothing more or less. Just enough. Same as it ever was… as always in closing, have fun(k), and now, more than ever, please be safe because we have no choice.

Peace and blessings.
