Vincent The Soul Chef

I love music... any kind of music... as long as it's groovy.

After a decade of trial and error, here is the official website where I attempt to chronicle my forty year obsession with all things vinyl. I dedicate this endeavour lovingly and respectfully to each and every single cratedigger the world over, who has offered me education and inspiration either directly or indirectly. Without you, this site, much less my record collection, would cease to exist. Thank you and enjoy.

Happy born day (including Ten)

"From listening to records I just knew what to do, I mainly taught myself. I did pretty well, except there were a few mistakes... I'd like to just be able to continue to be able to express myself as best as I can... I feel like I have a lot of work to do."

Hello, kiddies...

There's a whole lot to be said for the last two years, but it's time to move on. Ten years ago, I wanted to add my two cents to the conversation as a bit of an outsider... I never fully expected it to be as good of a run as it was. A few thousand later, and then the whole Facebook thing which I never expected to sign on to... lots of genuine human beings out there. I'll give all the shoutouts and acknowledgements at the end, but there's a matter of the future.

The future... I want to tell the story from the beginning, really. Pure and concise facts. Because knowing what someone plays tells an awful lot about what one thinks, far better than words from one's own lips. I did indeed spend the last two years joining record appreciation groups on social media. It is very well documented. I suppose that makes me a certified vinyl junkie. I really have been one since the age of six, no, make that 2 1/2...

I'll stop there for now, and get to the future of this blog. I want a monthly forum to just share my love of this game with you. It's gotten far different from when I first launched it in 2007. I still love my 45s, but I totally ignored so much, and now I kinda regret it. I do intend to make up for that in a monthly forum. It could take off, but I really am doing it for my own amusement... real talk, this is gonna be a tough year. I need some diversion. That being said, click on the player thingie... It's a labour of love. In between buying all those albums, I pieced this batch of 45s together that had been in my head for a while... good ones... ones I'd be glad to be stuck with for quite a while... they really do sound good in this way... enjoy.

Now in closing, I just wanna say that it's gonna be interesting to see how I tell the story. I really like writing. Music taught me how. Wring the sponge out into a mental flash drive once in a while and soak up even more along the way. Yeah, I'm gonna document it here. Over time. There's so many people out there to thank for the inspiration now. I swear, Facebook really did turn out to be the vehicle I needed to meet them all. From record selection, to mix creation... yeah. I owe you all big. Yeah. I'm immersed in music now. Playing it for myself, sharing the experience with anyone. Remember, I've wanted to do this since I was a teenager with a boom box. I've accomplished what I wanted once and for all. The rest is a bonus, and that brings me to folks like DJ Nite n Day (yeah, this one's especially for you)... especially to Shawn for the image... Mr. Mass... everyone at the Crate Diggers Union, Record Playas, the Safe As Milk Media Club and so many more Facebook groups. My dear friend Elle from Canada for the countless amount of blessings, of course my hero Larry... my goodness. Connie T. Empress too, most definitely Chris Lujan (remember that name), Liz, Greg, oh, and Ollie Teeba too... Linda GoGo!!! I've always got love for DJ Blueprint, the entire 4BB team, Matt, Mr. Mondo... I know I'm gonna miss some... definitely my friend Morgan and all of "the group" from high school, because I loved spinning records for all those epic parties... the entire Asbury Park 45 sessions team, the Wannabye Records family, DJ Tone and the 45bandits team, goodness. I. Love. You. All. My life has certainly been made richer because of you and so many MANY more. Watch this space, have fun(k) and as ALWAYS, please be safe.

Peace and blessings.

P.S. Damn, that felt good... it's been far too long. It's good to be home

"I would like to be able to continue to let what is inside of me, which comes from all the music that I hear, you know I'd like for that to come out... It's not really me that's coming through, the music's coming through me..."

Warm up to wind up...

Hello, kiddies.

It's that time of year again where I get the honour and privilege of participating in the Funky16Corners Soul Club Allnighter pledge drive. Those of you who have followed this space for the last decade already know what that means to me, but for those who are just tuning in, let me give you the back story... The blog known as Funky16Corners is one of the primary reasons why this website exists. Its owner, the incomparable Larry Grogan is, simply put, my hero. Why? I would say that the reasons are obvious, given that he continuously prompts me to step up my cratedigging game, but there's more to it than meets the eye. It's not enough that his crates are the stuff which dreams are made... nope. Anyone can collect a tonne of records, but not everyone can display the characteristics of a true human being in the process. This is a trait which I have discovered over the last couple of years following him on social media, and one of the reasons why I am proud to not only call him a trusted colleague, but a friend who I will move heaven and earth to support, especially now with this batch of 45 rpm gold that I called The Warmup Session and The Windup Session...  Check the player thingies below, or you can listen at your leisure EXCLUSIVELY by clicking here...

Yup. Now with all of that said, it's time for me to get on over there myself and throw some change into the hat because it's our contributions that help to keep the F16C brand available for all of us... I'm more than certain that you'll agree once you get a peep at how much is there. Have fun(k) and as always, please be safe... and take a few seconds to spare a thought for the people in Orlando.

Hear Her Roar...

Hello, kiddies.

For the first time in almost ten years, the first installment of the now storied AntiDivas saga is once again available for your consumption... suffice it to say, this one is quite sentimental to me because it was this collection that put the Fufu Stew brand on the map for all intents and purposes. The amount of love that this mix received was humbling, so as a treat to myself, I revisited the original playing order, albeit with a little bit of a gentle push from a good friend... I've since found better sources for most of the tunes so the sound quality is decidedly much better of course. Enjoy. NOTE: this mix contains non-vinyl sources. Big thanks to Mr. Fine Wine for the Shirley Karol and Ramona Jones tracks which were featured on his epic Cabernet Soulvignon premium CD... the best $75 donation I ever made, without question...

It was almost twenty years ago (including the Ultraviolet Pop trilogy)

Hello, kiddies.

I had yet to study the epic DJ Shadow record from back to front, although I was still playing it religiously... that would happen soon enough, but I was slowly changing colours as it were. I was still embracing the Alternative records pretty heavily, and had a stack of life changing CDs that I carried with me like textbooks... that brings us to the reason why we're here. I unearthed three old mini disc compilations that I had made back in 2000 or so that pretty much was the soundtrack of my life for about a year and a half straight. Here they are.

Why Ultraviolet Pop you may ask? Well, as you listen, you may notice a pattern. The soundscape gives off a definite hue of sorts... I started with three. Pink, orange and purple. Red would have been too easy, not to mention disrespectful to the Cocteau Twins hahaha!

I'm doing some different shit here...

Yeah... the time has finally come to get this all working and cohesive as I have been promising for at least a year or so. Way too much has happened, real life to be specific. My social media imprint says it all. What we have now is a need to get back to what I've been wanting to do for a long time. Just enjoying what I do and sharing what I do with whoever. It's all in good fun now. It has to be that way. Just because. I once said that my revolution would be uploaded. Well, I think it's time I make good on that, for better or worse. Watch this space too. Watch 'em all in fact. I may even attempt to upload pictures and such. Time and patience will tell the story better than I can tell it myself.
